The first day of public school is known to many as the first day of No-School, or the the Day of Unschool. We have gathered with friends for about five years to celebrate our freedoms in learning here in America and especially in Oregon. So as the big yellow busses roll out, we take one extra day to grab the floaties and swim goggles and head out to the last patch of warm water. However, in Central Oregon, that could make for one crazy day! It was POURING out side with capital POUR! What a way to start our day. But, I see the end of the clouds. We will just wait it out. We will. We will wait it out. The boys play a rousing game of Balloon Swords in the garage along with some skateboarding. We will wait. Yep. Well, lets go check some emails . . . . We decide to drive over to an indoor lunch party our friend was having on the south side of town. She called it the First Day of School Kick Off Party. However, on the way there, we were re-routed twice due to the flooding in town. Then, we kept passing fields of white. White? Really? So we stopped at church and had a little hail ball fight!
Not wanting to give up going to the lake, Jon takes a time out and plays in the parking lot.
The only problem is, I can still see the blue sky line – just outside of town over Mt. Bachelor –
So, on to the indoor party. We had alot of friends there, and met a few new ones!
(I"ll put some party photos in my photo album side.) As the sky suggested, it wasn’t long until the sky cleared and the heat index rose and the kids started jumping into the pool that was at the rec. center.
All in all we had a great day meeting up with friends. We heard that some families went to the movies to stay dry and some went bowling. A Fun Day before Hitting the Books!
