Pinewood Derby Winners!

Well, I had to post these pictures so my dad would have something to brag about over coffee in the morning.  Tonight was the Awana Pinwood Derby Races.  Very Very huge Event.  I’ll have pictures of the event later, but thought I’d post pictures of the boys here with their trophies and cars.   (Awana – Approved workman are not ashamed)

Jon designed his car based on a wood kit he made this summer from Micheals.  He drew on the design, then I cut it out with a hand saw, then we used a dremil to form and shape it.  He painted it, the Yellow Dot on top is his number, 20, under it he painted on the number 1.

Nate hand drew out his design on paper, then drew it on the block.  Again with the cutting and sanding.  He painted his red, wanted bars in the windows, went and picked out a piece for the back and decals for the front.  The blue dot is his number, 1, and the yellow dot is for Awana.

Very Excited group of boys tonight!  Their good friend made a car, hmmm, should I mention his amazing design idea?  No – but he won first place design.  So all three boys got a trophy.  Oh – and their other good friend got a design trophy too.  So – All four friends are winners.  Awesome!

FYI – In case you aren’t aware, they hand us a baggie with a square piece of wood, wheels and axils.  We have to cut away, sand, paint, varnish, etc, and then put in weights to make them weigh 5.0 ounces. The boys cars were 2.5 and 3.5 oz, so that was a lot of weight to put in the cars. You have to cut out the wood underneath, and slide it in.  There are dimension requirements for height and length and for the body to be high enough to clear the track from the bottom.

So there ya go grandpa, Brag away!
