I might be arrested for Kidnapping, anyone have bail $$?

But I’m not sure.  I was driving down the parkway yesterday. And my van was quiet.  Too Quiet.  Then, from the back I hear – "Knock it off, I’m trying to read Jon."    Holy Cow. I careened into the other lane as my neck snapped backwards so I could see what kid I picked up from the library.

See – we go to the library. Sometimes twice a week.  We check out books and videos.  We read a book there.  Then sometime during the week, I force the boys to actually look in the book bags to read one I’ve selected for them, since they wouldn’t, and write a report on it.  But never, in the past 6 months, have they actually pulled out a book w/o my urging, and never on the first day on the way home.

So this kid, who somewhat resembles Nathan, is in the back seat halfway through a chewbacca of the wookies book.  He heard on a game show the night before that a dad missed the question what is Chewbacca, and he knew the answer was Wookie.  So he went and looked up what else was a Wookie.  Might help that our dog is named Rookie, but it does seem like the boys have switched the sound to a W yesterday also.

Flash forward to this morning, we all slept in.  So I’m not checking my emails til 8:30 or so, and then the boys wake up around 8:45.  I tell them they can watch 15 mins of PBS then come in to start their school work. EXACTLY at 9:00 there is silence again, except for the breaks of both boys laughing and one boy animatedly narrating a book to the little giggly brother.  Its the Wookie book.  Again.

The little brother keeps calling this kid Nathan, so, so far, the switching boys have fooled Jon.  We’ll see.

Or – maybe after years of work and prayer and devotion to reading, my son actually is reading cause he LIKES to hear what the book is going to say. . . . .

I’ll post from jail if I need bail money.
