St. Nicks Day

We have the stockings hung on the chimney this evening, and the children snug in their beds.  Last year we decided to celebrate St Nicks day on the 6th.  From the original Saint, which is well documented, as we celebrate on his birthday – he would walk around town, and those who had need would put hay or veggies in their shoes and put them out by the door.  As Nicholas would pass by, his donkey would stop, and he would drop a coin or fruit into their shoes.  Fast forward to the culture of Santa  and we have the stockings hung by the chimney with care.  A few choco coins, a $3.00 set of legos and a small vile of an intensely sour concoction to please the boys will await them in the morning.

But is there a need ?  Not really.  Today we paid the bills.   Hubby is working part time as a starting associate at Radio Shack. It is a starting over point again.  The whole year seems to be a series of events of starting over.  this is the 10th month we have paid the bills in full, with provision that we weren’t quite sure would be there, on time. The Lord has been very good to us this year financially, after several months of no work. I have been blessed to have clients for web work, and hubby feels blessed to have a job.  He should be full time starting this week – the growth continues.

So – I don’t feel like we’d actually have a need to put a shoe out on the door step – but it is fun to remember to be on the lookout of those who need us, look for the signs of families who need our time, attention, love, mercy, God’s forgiveness and the sharing of the Messiah – and of His Love.  And a little lego set never hurts either. 🙂
