The home learning and training has been going smoother than ever. I must say that the fall/winter time of learning has been the best most rewarding homeschool experience I have had so far. Nathan is now up to level in all of his studies. He has matured so much this year in his academic abilities. What a joy!!! I give my hat off to all of the mentors who promised me that "somewhere between 8-10 he will read and somewhere between 10-12 he’ll be up to par". Amazing. We have spent wonderful years learning about geography and science and reading books – now this year our focus is more on writing and grammar and English. We are using the School of Tomorrow PACE system for English. This systematic way of exploring words and speech and writing has been wonderful for us! Nathan is right on target with his PACES so far this year, and I trust that we will keep up the rhythm! He is also excelling in Saxon 6/5. I need to take more time to work on the white board with the longer division and multiplication problems. HE seems to loose track in the middle and is careless with accuracy.
Jon is moving quickly in learning to read – he has all of his sounds down and is adapting well to sight words as well as phonetic words. He worked out of a 1st grade workbook this year and did 2-4 pages a day. He has only 4 days left in the workbook. He is moving well in Miquon Math. It has been great for both of my boys.
They read books in the afternoon- I have not been disciplined at reading the history with them. We are working on learning the States and Continents for Jon. I need to get more disciplined with doing this each day as well.
