A New Year!

Well, since I’m not sure that a whole quarter inch of snow is enough to make it a "snow day" on the high desert – I suppose will start crackin’. I’ve spent the greater part of the last two weeks praying, reading, planning, absorbing what my goals are for our learning for the next three months. As I am an unschooler leaning towards delight directed at heart – I asked the boys what they want to learn. They both want to be able to cook real food – one wants to play the drums, one wants to learn about birds. One wants to learn to gut a fish. (swim away goldie- swim away!) So we will move along on the path of their written math and english curriculums, a page a day seems to keep our minds on academic learning – and up to par for our state tests. I will re-focus my attention on listening to their conversations – offering fun activities that will help them digest their thoughts – and set up learning opportunities based on their interests around the home. The idea that unschoolers do not school is the silliest thing I’ve ever heard. So we will read some Burgess Nature Stories and see what Crane is up to, Color some pictures from the Big Book OF Backyard Birds that the little one checked out, I’ll make phone calls to see about drum lessons, and crack open the rhythm book again, we’ll play some multiplication dice, and play some games with sight words today . . . .We need to find the Awana Books! Where did those go???? – Off we go!
