The Shack pages 204-206

There is too much to write about in these pages – probably would break a law typing it all out – but the jist of what struck me – was the definition of two words – Responsibility and Expectations. We have no responsibilities with God and the church – but we must be responsive to his moving – responsive to His voice and His mission. We must allow the Holy Spirit the ability to respond – ‘He is our ability to respond – when He is present in us’. God is much more concerned in our will being placed on hold while His will responds to people. I have been pondering the Expectations/Expectancy thing for quite some time, long before I read this book. I found that the times I felt most out of control was during a time when I had certain expectations – in events, people, even the way a meal should taste. I practiced talking about expectations to my kids during events – asking them what their expectations are at holidays and during trips. We are growing to learn to just be expectant – the expectancy that God has a plan for our day – for our event – for our food even. We have an expectancy that He is at work – and no matter how the circumstance develops of pain – or hardship- or joy- or success – that He is at work. This past week – I have really been learning to urgently seek Him for resolution to troubles instead of spending time thinking through probable results. What a joy to live in Him.
