School Planning

This is the first year that I have felt the pressure of really getting a schedule going for my 6th grader.   I struggled in the 6th grade with keeping my assignments in order, not loosing reports, or having them drop in the drain on the way from my house to the bus, an the bus stop was right in front of our house .. . . .Although I ended up an A student – I did get my fair share of F’s in the 6th grade  . .

First thing I do each year is to gather the books I have collected.  (Wait – mental note – FIRST thing I do is pray. For each child – to know what His goals are – and then write and trust – and see what is available) I pile them up and write them out quickly on a piece of paper or in a notebook.  This past summer I have been gathering, so they were in piles on our school table.   I have downloaded the free version of Homeschool Tracker.  This will be my second year using it.  I want to purchase the Plus Version for $49.00 – I think it will be worth it for scheduling, saving, and sharing. Also – it comes with the transcript maker.   With this software, or on paper, I write out each resource, which child, which subject etc.  I have my calendar handy to put in times of classes such as Sign Language or Awana.

Next – make a list of anything that needs purchased. I need a new Saxon 7/6 textbook and maybe new language books for the 3rd grade.

I will post my books at a later date  as I just finished typing them all in and writing them all out – I don’t want to do it again.  With this version of HomeSchool Tracker, I can not copy and paste them easily ..  .

So – my next task is to browse through Latin from the Roots Up and pick which words we will look at first, make a plan for The Ultimate Geography and Timeline Guide and browse around for 3rd grade english/grammar choices.  I think for now it will continue to be read, narrate, copywork, dictation from the books from the library or from the McGuffy/Mott Media series. My 3rd grader is usually interested in anything else but the McGuffies. I just put away three bird books on the shelf this morning from  his research and drawing.  This afternoon is compass work on letterboxing.   Right now my brain is a little mushy . . . . . .
