What do you DO all day?

I get asked about this often. This week the question in emails, groups, and in person have been – what does our schedule look like. I’ve gone into my massive OC planning strategies, but what does that look like played out in the day homeschooling with sixth grade and third grade boys? We do more of a after this then, when necessary this then that type of a routine. This morning we slept in til 7:30 and have been cleaning up the living room from the massive Lego Building that has been going on. Sleeping bags picked up, cups and plates found under blankets. The boys have figured out with their lego trading that they can piece together some of their massive supply of misc. parts to form strange and crazy space ships to trade for minifigs. Star Wars minifigs continue to be their delight.

They move out their bed – and some days they hunker down for a good Mario Race before Breakfast. Which gives me time to make a little snack of Peach Cobbler.    We work on Saxon 7/6, Miquon Blue, Writing Strands 3 and 100 Easy Lessons every day after a little T&T Awana reading. We are in book one and book two. Everytime I turn around to help Nathan with his DIVE CD for Saxon, Jonathan disappears. I never know where I will find him, or what he will be doing. Yesterday I found him with his BB Gun resting on a shovel shooting at what appeared to be dirt in the back yard. Upon futher investigation, I saw that he had placed popscicle sticks in the ground to make a shooting gallery. Plastic Milk Jugs, Cups, Branches etc were also in the line of fire.  Each element had a point value based on the difficulty of actually hitting it, and he was wracking up the points. Of course I had to stop him so we could go do Miquon Math. (grin) But at least he has friends while playing. Speaking of friends, we usually gather with a few in the afternoons. Nathan likes to take part in a little Ultimate Frisbee with his friends. He is still not a huge sports fan, but he is a friend fan, so you can usually find him around the goal lines.  While I hang with some moms. And Kiddos. .  Then after a long day, it is bath time for the dog and the boy. We take them to the local canal while Nate is at Youth group at Compass Church.    Dad comes home from work, we BBQ a nice dinner, and the boys head to bed to read and play DS and Legos. Its a hard life – this home schooling – but someone’s gotta do it!
