So far – we gather around the large dining room table to work on reports and math. A little coffee and wandering eyes watching the lake. Today – after a whole day at water’s edge – I wanted the boys to make some gift wrapping for Grandma’s present. Instead, they made banners for the living room. “We can just put some swirls on the wrapping paper right?”, they ask. Sigh.
The room was completely finished, then the dining room was re-arranged, so the classroom got disarrayed. Parents are coming with friends tomorrow, so we are getting the house in company order. Rearranged books and board games to distribute them around the house, moved the crafts into a useable order, put away their learning books back on the everyday shelf instead of the dining room table.
I think my youngest likes thinking it is his own craft cupboard. He used to have a food pantry that we stocked – with crafts – not food. His little desk was in there, he could close the door, turn on the light, and create for hours. I’m excited to see what he comes up with in there now. Today it was a fully colored picture that he drew and mounted to cardboard and framed. He says, “See? The house is painted blue. That’s new for me, I’ve never painted my houses before”. He has been drawing himself to sleep, preferring this as relaxing over reading.
Our school room is more of a craft room as you will see – it is more of a place to put things away – having a central location to find scotch tape – and somewhere to store the Saxon DIVE CD. 🙂 Wouldn’t want to loose that!
Enjoy.
