Science Curriculum – Homeschool

What science curriculum do you use for Third and Sixth Grade? I’ve been asked this several times this week – after comments my boys have made to strangers in our new town.

So far – Still field guides. Time outside. Questions.

This week:

“What is that animal called that can breath in and out of water?  Oh – Amphibian. Can you look that up mom and see?”

“What is another word for Crawdads? Does a cray fish breath out of the water? Why?”

“Which bird is that? – Several times.

“What makes the tides change? How many times a day do the tides change?”

Time spent – by the hours  – at the beach, at the lake, in the forests, by the shore, on the rocks, in the tide pools, watching waves.

It was not so different in the mountains, their observations just created different questions.  Now, after 5 years in the high desert, their questions are more comparisons and wonderings. Why is this rock here? Is this a volcanic rock? Weather, trees, bugs – differences observed, looked up, discussed.

“Look it up mom!” has become an often used question in our home. I am glad. 🙂 These are just a few of the things that I can think of off hand while hubby fixes my printer, my dog brings each bite of food to my feet to crunch and I watch how candy is made on Un Wrapped.  Joy.
