Last week we enjoyed a day off with Dad to drive up the coast to Tillamook and see the Cheese Factory. We went up 101, and then back down a coastal drive through Pacific City and Netarts.
We enjoyed driving by farms that displayed the Tillamook sign. The boys were impressed at how well cared for they were and all of the large milking trucks around. Very impressive of how many gallons of milk it takes a day!
Jon has a little friend that LOVES cheese. He said she would DIE if she came here and saw the huge chunks of cheese. It was crazy to see how hand /handled each individual piece of cheese is, it gets touched many times. . . . um, which was nice on the isn’t it great its a hand made product but then, prompted a little more prayer of blessing at the table . . . . .
Even in a dairy environment with farmers, they have replaced man with machine. Instead of the guided tour I remember, these touch pad terminals give the kiddos all the little facts.
Testing at the gift shop. Only 4-5 choices. Cutbacks?

We stopped by the Whiskey Creek Hatchery on the way home. I think hubby was a bit disappointed that he wouldn’t pick up a little hatchling bottle for his Diet Coke, but he had fun with a great talk and time with his boys. . . . .
At the Pacific City Library, we checked out a few books on Dairy Farms. This book in particular was great, the story was very good, and the watercolor illustrations were inspiring. We have been looking at how people paint trees and faces.

Click Clack Moo, Cows that Type is just hysterical. We have read this many times, so it had to be on the list. We love the facial expressions of the farmer and animals, and also took a tip from how they drew the trees as well. What a funny book, one really must keep the typewriter and texting from the barn!
So we had a great field trip, a tasty ice cream, and time with dad. We walked on the beach and fed the trout. Good Times!
