Do you struggle to stay focused on a lesson? Are getting through lessons sometimes so tough that you throw up your hands and buy the DVD instructor?
Well, interruptions are part of what makes unschooling fun! We CAN stop for a moment, or a week, to explore an interest, a joy, and curiosity.
This afternoon we spread a canvas tarp out on the lawn, in perfect view of several varieties of trees, ready to focus on the Outdoor Challenge – Winter Series for Pine Trees we had the Pine Tree pages printed out of the Anna Comstock Handbook of Nature Study book, pencils, journals, A couple of tree identification books, when it all went haywire.
Little had we known, or thought, that we put our spot on an earthworm’s bed. They started coming up out of the canvas at the top, racing over the moss and grass, resembling tiny garden snakes. The boys were up and excited, measuring the worms, grabbing the camera, squealing. – Since they were up, we went into the woods to plant the little pine tree we picked up earlier in the week at the library.
We did get refocused on Pine Trees, I’ll tell ya that crazy story another day. 🙂
