Really Great Day

We had one of those really great days. You know the ones? That at the day’s end you wish all the days of home learning would go so well, but then realize you’d be one exhausted cookie if they were?

  • We worked on our journals, completed a plant study on the Chameleon Plat growing near our forest edge,
  • took a bike ride, boys wandered down to the KOA by themselves to see if the “store” advertised was a real one or just for Kampers . . . they came back with two sodas and grins galore
  • they found another Trillium flower on the road and picture mailed me a beautiful photo
  • we worked on math with both boys
  • while I worked on my household bill pile
  • we had a great time observing the nature spring weather while laying on sleeping bags on the deck,
  • while my youngest son BBQ’d sausages for hubby’s 2pm lunch
  • we made a quicky shadow stick to mark the time spent on the deck in the afternoon
  • then made a trip to the store to pick up an outside thermometer for our study, a new bird feeder and hummingbird feeder
  • Nate hammered everything I needed to hang the three fixtures
  • and then I got the lawnmower running to cut the yard.
  • The boys helped me clear all of the pine cones and broken branches in the yard,
  • then they helped me re-plant flowers that were over fertilized,
  • and then took turns finishing mowing the lower yard.
  • Jon spent time practicing his archery
  • while I taught Nate how to replace the spark plugs on our outboard motor.
  • He ran up the hill and put WD 40 on his little brother’s bike chain while we had the supplies out.
  • I think we’ve thrown the ball into the lake at least 138 times each for the dog, will she ever tire of it?
  • Then we came up stairs to make super nachos with a chicken fajita type topping to the cheese, chives, cilantro tomato and sour cream.  Yum-o.

Top that with a Chuck rerun, another hour of 24 and now watching Undercover Boss with hubby on cbs.com.  He got home from work around 9pm.

Now both boys are reading in bed, Jon is waiting for his night time pirate story.

Our days are full, the flow, we change, we grow, we learn.  We talk and share and show. We observe and write and make note. We review and reflect and fold laundry. 🙂

Its a good life.  At the end of the day the dishes are done and the clothes are folded and the dog looks almost hopeful that I’ll throw the ball one more time tonight.
