Spring Flower Study–Learning the Parts

Forget Me Nots

We choose Forget Me Nots for the the Outdoor Hour Challenge Spring Wild Flower Plant. You can find the challenge here: Spring Wild Flower

We spent some time outdoors looking at the wild and purposely planted flowers. In particular, we were looking for clear examples of Flower Parts, and the Most Abundant WildFlower  in our yard.  When we came indoors – we tried to see how many little parts we could find and identify. I did have a slide that had a Buttercup Stem on it, so we looked at that also.

We spent yesterday looking at parts of a flower online.  The challenge to the boys is to start using correct names when observing and drawing plants.

The photo in the bottom left nature journal was found on line as showing the parts of the Forget Me Not.  Very Cool. I have another whole pondering post on observing in detail, and being able to see the difference between the familiar and the unknown . . . pondering. Each time we spend in direct intentional observation, especially of an object in abundance, we find more of what we don’t know, than what we do .  . pondering.  I hope you join us in our Wildflower Study!
