Moving (Listening?) right along in our Harmony Fine Art plan – we find ourselves studying Pablo Picasso and Nikolai Rimsky Korsakov. We learned that Pablo was from Spain, and started his drawing quite young with his dad as an art teacher. We read a biography that detailed where he studied. Both boys found it interesting in the text that one of the ways he was taught was to study the great artists and learn from their works.
I was interested in Nikolai Rimsky Korsakov, as I’m reading a book about a little girl who was adopted out of Russia, and Kosakov is from Russia. We listened to a couple of his works and they are breathtaking!
We ventured into the Drawing with Children book while listening, and we learned all about the rubber kneaded eraser. I didn’t know you were to mush, stretch, pull, mush, and then form it back up. We also learned to use the eraser to wipe the pastels off of our hand and table, that using water would make the sticking of the color worse. We used hairspray as a fixative, and they’re not kidding – it flat out doesn’t move after a little spritz.
I am just Luh-huh-hoving Wednesday Art Day!
Pablo Picasso 1881-1973 Boy in a Sailor Suit
Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov 1844-1908 Listened to a Pod Cast of his life and watched a video – Scheherazade (Young Prince and the Princess)
The boys circled a number between 1-8 and picked #5 – Angi Wirrick as the winner of the Mini-Unit. She didn’t leave an email address – so if she doesn’t respond – then Nate picked #3 Blossom – I’ll let you know! Thank you everyone for spreading the word! Now get out there and introduce some great classical music and art to the kids!
