Of questions we ponder –
We started this journey of homeschooling with a Delight Directed bent to our unschooling process. Delight Directed should not be confused with Desire Directed. We are not directed daily by their whim of whimsical fancy – not always. 🙂 We have learned to see the sparkle of interest, a question raised in simplicity, but with long drawn thought behind it, where they could not work out the question on their own, and voiced it to find answers. I really should keep a little notebook in my pocket attached to my key ring to keep track of all of their questions. Yesterday’s question was “How many times would lightning have to strike the ocean to conduct electricity to the beach?” Amazingly, this question has quite a few entries on the internet. We will explore the difference between fresh and salt water, our bodies and metal this morning. Of distance and strength. I had a great time exploring this question. It will open up more discussions as the storm season covers us. This morning’s question is, “When you are done looking at Mythbusters’, will you look up how sea gull’s smell? How far can they smell and how well?” We have several water fowl around the lake, however we rarely sea a gull. This morning Lil Jon went out with a crust of bread while checking his crawdad traps, and the mere presence of the crust drew in 2 gulls to the dock. He is now doing his reading and math in a frantic pace, thinking I will not look up the smell question until he is done. 🙂 He is little. He will learn of my OC ways and realize I will think of nothing else until the answer is found. 🙂 Continue reading
