Of Relaxing, Being Still, Calming the Mind and Spirit

image

The Homeschool Blog Hop asks –
How do you as a busy mum, find some time for you?
What’s your sanctuary?        Your place?         Your thing?
Even when you can’t leave the home behind what do you do at home with a houseful of children to find some time for you?
Time to recharge, relax, be still, calm the mind and the spirit, so you can be ‘there’ for your children.

I like to rise early.  I let the family sleep in. This is not a mama who shakes her kiddos awake in the wee hours to start the day. The early part of the day is mine. The earlier I rise – the more time I get.  I like to keep Half and Half ready for frothy milk – I created it with the microwave and blender before hubby bought me a machine. 🙂 I love to take photographs. Quietly, or with children – it centers me.  We do not have a house phone – but we purchased an extra Sprint phone for the boys – it is my 9 dollar insurance that if they need me, they can um, call, their dad – when I take my early morning walks. I force myself to say no to them. I can go to the beach alone. I can drive the boat myself. When we were not in this natural area of abundance – I would drive to my favorite tea spot, Townsend’s Tea and have a Mt. Hood Vanilla Black Tea Latte. By myself. Bring a book. Sit alone. When I can’t be alone?  I choose the game I want to play. I choose the music I want to listen to. I shower when I feel like it.  I claim my time at home. I cook what I want to eat. I want to show the boys how to treat their mom, and how their wife will want to be treated. I even have a special fork and glass. For my special plate. 🙂 I have a mom chair. That no one else sits in. You create and allow people to treat you the way you want to be treated. I refuse to be a martyr – especially since my boys are older now. But even when they were younger – they should know – not to disturb you – in the mom chair.I love my reading time in the morning, browsing over my prayer journal. Did I mention I blog?  You don’t have to buy your toddler a cell phone and give him the neighbor’s number – but you can train him to be quiet and still with you. Even if for a few moments at the side of a garden. How long can they stay silent for videos?

Early morning – before the sun clears –this is looking west with the early morning fog.

This is around 10 or 11 – I take the boat out by myself with my camera and book. I love to photograph birds and landscapes.

I started walking on the beach by myself. Sometimes my eldest goes to look for floats. But he knows I’m in my own thoughts and songs in the morning. Little sand pipers.

Early Morning is the best time for bird photography. When the water is like a mirror.  Little first year juvenile Blue Heron.

Oh – and did I mention I like to blog?

About the Beach?

About the Lake?

About my Ponderings?

I’m getting a kick out of reading the comments and seeing how your post on mom time has strayed to html coding and blog design. 🙂 Love it!

Thats funny. I go through these comments in my Gmail – so Thought we were emailing back and forth. . . . . Hm. At least you see how zany my thoughts go. 🙂 Honey was helping us to Trim Up our websites here and there. 🙂 Amazing little details that would make it easier of for the eye an user that the web creator doesn’t see. 🙂

Popping in on the blog hop!
You live in such a beautiful area. I would be hards not to relax while looking at that view!
However I am so NOT a morning person, I stay up late! lol! same idea though

    Ahhh! See…you would have thought I would’ve made the connection…but nope…too obvious! 😉

Corner round the edges? I think it looks good the way it is…but really…I use premade templates & take HOURS completing tutorials to get anything on my blog. My brains still fried from trying to do the whole new template…so I don’t know if my opinion is worth much concerning blog designs! 🙂

…had to look again…corner round?…no…it’d look funny if I actually had to think about it/give a critique. I like the straight lines…simple, easy flow, seamless like even though it’s different. Corner rounding might look stuffy…wouldn’t go with the simple elegant tone of your blogging. Keep it how you have it…it says I live on a beach, I ignore my kids & get in the boat :), I take great pics & I’m not afraid to be in my own head.

Yes…straight lines & color tells me all that…apparently I was a psychic in another life… (I’m crackin’ myself up with my other life junk!) Anyways…I like your blog, what you’re posting and it’s the first time I’ve ever thought a boat just might be a cool experience.

Well…it’s 2:12AM…I guess I should pretend like I sleep 🙂 Enjoy the boat this morning…and don’t forget the tootsie! Oh! Bird tootsies! THAT would be FUNNY!!!

Not HERE silly. At Blogspot. I love the Ocean Mist theme here. 🙂 I had to download ocean mist for Blogger and it rounded the corners there – but my banner is straight from this one. I added beach blog and lake blog to the title of those banners but never to the sec to make the photo fit the banner spot. Now its just been a crazy surfin mom rebellion thing. 🙂

Question…on your header pic in the top right…right beside the waters edge there is a large red whispy x ….what IS that? I thought I could not be nosy, but …apparently not. 🙂

    Honey

    • +Angie Wright's avatar pebblekeeper says:

I think I just love ya! I thought when you were asking about the header, you were going to tell me to corner round the edges to fit in the theme. . . . it square in wordpress and corner rounded in blogger – and it BUGS me in blogger – but apparently not enough to spend five minutes on it .. . . . . Then I giggled at the rest of the sentence. 🙂

Its our House. 🙂 Its why we are Lake Schooling, Beach Schooling and as hubby says – Some Schooling (wordpress)

  6. Honey's avatar Honey says:

Oh…I love your pics! I’m NOT a boat fan…something about the rocking…doesn’t feel natural to not be IN the water…apparently I was a water animal in a past life. But, with pics like that…I think I could learn to love the boat!

Again…BEAUTIFUL!! And, I love the tootsies in the boat pic. Tootsies in pics make me giggle! 🙂 I cam over from the blog hop. 🙂

When we lived in Maryland near the water, I’d love to just sit out on the deck by myself OR read a good book in the shade at the community beach while the boys played. No such luck for pretty views at our new digs. Seeing your photos made me think about the Maryland house….

  8. Ticia's avatar Ticia says:
