After reading about our raising Mosquitoes in the Kitchen – Many have asked –
What are we going to do with our cute little wigglers Zombies?
Some have wondered –
You’re not keeping them for pets right? You will let the boys swat them this summer right?
NO. No. NO! Of course not. They are mosquitoes. I mean, I’m all for sprays and candles and skin rubs and such. Of course. . . .We’ll be a bit nicer to snakes after that study – more observant of worms, sure – but ya. Killing Mosquitoes. Part of the Handbook of Nature study was to tell us how to help our property be more responsible to being mosquito free by taking care of standing water.
But –
We’re now dealing with the whole zombie theme. And um, arn’t they already dead? So how do we kill them? And then how to dispose of them . . . . I mean – do you pour zombies down the potty? Who’s going to sit on that? (rolls eyes)
Well – In true sweet homeschool empathy – older crazy boy ideas of zombie funerals – I won’t leave ya hangin’ – Here are the pics. 🙂
First – We did the science experiment with Lamp Oil, closest we had to kerosene, and poured some over the top. Many of the larva and pupa died at once. Many struggled. I, um, didn’t video it. Dad and the boys were making sound effects. And – well – it wasn’t pretty.
We waited a couple of days – but they weren’t all dead. There were 2-3 that kept swimming. Today – I wanted to rid my kitchen of dead bugs (silly me) and thought I’d let the boys plan out the funeral.
We made a Zombie Tomb/casket/death trap and transferred the liquid and zombies.
Next – we went close to the water – we thought it would scare any mosquitoes nearby – and tossed grenades at the tomb. Jon said this works well in Roblox. But – They didn’t seem dead enough.
So – Nathan said maybe a fire grenade.
Yep. That seemed to do the trick. (Did I mention the top was covered in Lamp Oil? Ya.)
Ok. Seriously. Now its THE END. Next week Tree Study. THANK YOU!
I think I should tell the Nature Study re-caps from now on. . . . .Instead of the Boys.

LOL, we have to get together one day soon. Fancy Crazy works for me.
That’s funny. We are considering a run to Washington for fireworks. Have any welding gas? Oxygen acetylene is fun. Except it’s set off by static electricty. Ask me how I know that. heehee
Um, hopefully your boys don’t read this…it’s really not safe and very unstable stuff. Unlike your hubby, my Dad was plain crazy.
Ya. My husband is Fancy Crazy. 🙂 We are down to a few bottle rockets. Nate tried to use a “missile launchers” aka bottle rockets (shot by sticking them in the Cat Tails from our previous study) but kept missing the can and the ricochet across the lake sounded like a shot gun. After a couple of tries we went with the Fire Grenade idea. 🙂
We live across from some teens that have bottle rockets and two spots away from people who spontaneously launch what not when having bbq’s, so I’m thinking its a user friendly part of the lake – but cha never know. I have a long and drawn out story about a time with a warehouse full of um Washington fireworks that had to be quickly moved. . . . . Fancy Crazy. 🙂
You are a so much cooler homeschool mama than I am…
No. Way.
(Of course, my crew is busy photographing tarantellas as I type… {shudder})
My kids are crazy, and I’m tolerant, and my husband ignites us all into craziness. 🙂 Cool or Brave isn’t quite the same as crazy. 🙂 But it does have a nicer ring to it. Cool Mom. Ya I like that better. I’ll have a name tag made. 🙂
That is hilarious and you are sooo much braver than me. Mosquitoes are to be feared here cuz ladybug gets a nasty reaction when she is bitten by the zombies (she has exzema). Thanks for following me and can’t wait to get to know everyone on the Crew better.
Amanda (older crew)
Thanks Amanda! I’m enjoying all of the blogs on the crew!!
