First Day of No School Day – Celebrating Freedom!

We started out on the beach north of town – Fogged In. 2 people on the beach. It is like someone flipped the switch. Easy to turn left onto our two late tourist highway. Able to drive the speed limit.  🙂 Joyful way to start the day!

The waves were fabulous!

After picking up cans, the boys set up a knock the can over with a rock game. Fun.

As promised – it was a No School Day – however, we can’t promise  no learning day.
We looked at the flora and fauna  along the way and even ran into a few fossils on the beach – DSCN5175

Wanna Pic of the Pebblekeeper?  Rare Photo!

Drove down to the Bay at Taft  for some chicken salad sandwiches for a lunch picnic.

Chatted it up with some Salmon fishermen – they said the salmon are out there, but close to the mouth.
They are all waiting for the rains to fill the rivers so that there is enough room for them to swim further up.
We are getting a salmon tag this weekend.

Nathan won a free scoop of ice cream from Elaenor’s Undertow.  HOLY COW! I can’t believe we have not been in this place. Walked by maybe possibily hundreds of times. I had assumed its charm would not have charming prices. Old Fashioned Burgers and Shakes has near to Old Fashioned Prices.  Our family of 4 could all eat here for under twenty dollars if we choose wisely.  Fish and chips were under eleven dollars. And man o man is it good. Nothing fried. We had a cup of coffee, a soda and Ice Cream. What a treat.  They have a game room off to the right, tickets win you pieces of taffy. This is by far the best family restaurant in town! If you want real beach charm, at charming prices, from the friendliest people in Taft – Go to the RIGHT – and go to Eleanor’s Undertow! We want to thank them bunches for supporting the Teen Library Summer Read Program!!! THANK YOU!!!!!

With happy tummies – we went to the ocean side of of the beach – Amazing Waves.
I have about a hundred pictures of them . . . . Grand. Really Grand.

Jon won some bouncy balls at Eleanor’s Undertow on 51st Street.
So he made several versions of sand castles with them.
They got really elaborate after this one.

We talked to some kayakers crabbing in the bay. They were not having any luck this afternoon. I saw a post from a friend that caught a ton.  The “Ber” months are the best.  Guess we arn’t quite into the first ber yet. 🙂

We came home and had beef stroganoff for dinner.  Round about 5 I realized, once again, the downfall to being in teacher mode – no cook, bottle washer, janitor, aid. Etc.  🙂 The laundry will get done, the dishes will get washed, but we’ll never get another chance at today. Amazing conversations. Met amazing people. Jon finished the New Testament this evening. Walked to a friend’s house to share cake. Got three lawn mowing jobs from the neighbors on the way back. Life is good. Tomorrow we might even do some math and english. 🙂

Happy Freedom Day Friends!
