Food Banks to Baby Jesus

We had a fun day today – We started at the local food bank, the boys like to unload the trucks and then do the shelving work. Both of them stop intermittently to check to see if their arm muscles have grown. (rolls eyes) They are convinced that if they keep it up all winter that they’ll be buff by summer.  . . . I’d love to tell you that they do it for the joy of serving the community – but – well. They are middle school boys. Smile

DSCN9383We went to the Driftwood Library after – ran into quite a few friends there – I had the boys pick out reading books for the next two weeks, we are going to try “quiet reading time” in the afternoon – computers off. One of the questions on Nathan’s Daily Gram’s paper yesterday  – is what do you call the date on the back of the title page in a book?  We looked it up and found out it could be called the Published Date or Copyright Date.  So – when Nate found the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book, he wondered if it was new –  I thought to ask him how to find out if it was really “new” or not. Gave my big mom speech about it.  When he flips it over and says, in a voice that only a Jr High Boy can have – “Well, Mom, I could move my finger from the spine and reveal the ‘NEW’ sticker – which would tell me the date is this year.” I told him his sassyness was going to show up on the blog – he thought I should share his information with the other moms – so there ya go. Smile ( I noticed the sun is setting due south, something I don’t remember seeing before – Love the OHC that has trained me to “see” things)

DSCN9385I had a couple of errands to run, so I dropped the boys off at the beach and then met them so they could go down to the tide pools. (They just walk along the grass when they walk the beach alone.) The tide pools are getting to their prime. The slimy spring plants have died off, leaving easy to walk on rock, the pools are almost emptied of the summer sands, and the life is teaming. Colors – hermits, plants, fish – beautiful- fun!  We can drive to these pools, and the waves crash over the end.

We came home to eat our dinner with dad. He gets to come home each day from 2-3, so we have our large meal at this time. I worked on my “quiet time” hour after dinner – while the boys played their facebook games. .   . .We’ll do book quiet time tomorrow.

DSCN9390Jon had the opportunity to travel to Portland/Beaverton with a friend to celebrate his birthday. His friend is here every weekend, but lives in Beaverton. He has had his bag packed by the door since he found out on Sunday. At 5 he left to drive to Beaverton with his friend’s dad – I wonder if the dad’s ears are tired. . . .Jon texted me about 15 times giving me play by plays of where they were. . . .

Nathan and I kidnapped our neighbor and went to the live nativity in town. It was so beautiful and well done. The decorations and costumes brought you right into the market square. You cast lots to earn monies upon entering the square, then gave coins throughout the little huts to participate.

DSCN9405We made a scroll of the verse in Isaiah 61 that was opened and read in Luke – they had the words in Hebrew written out and we were to copy the Hebrew,  roll it up, and then seal it with wax. They had a huge Mediterranean snack center open. Nate says Falafel was Fil-Aweful – but I liked it! Yummy Snacks! The goats were  a bit skiddish – might have been the raw goat’s meat sitting by the barn that the kids were using to roast over the fire. . . Anyone seen Henry Lately? Henry?????

We topped off the evening with another family sipping sodas while the kids played at a restaurant in town. A little ice cream and french fries to top off the yummy Mediterranean feast. Smile Now we are quietly at home, Daddy is home, and we are watching Discovery Channel while I type and Nathan checks his forum chatter on Roblox. Smile

Have I mentioned that I love our life?  I do. Smile

I think the second shift Jesus was a Jessica – but she’s still pretty cute. Smile

Luke 4:17-21

17 And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

20 And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. 21 And he began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”

Isaiah 61:1-2

The Year of the Lord’s Favor

61:1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor; [1]
he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; [2]
2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,
and the day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all who mourn;
