Scaups in the Thousands on Devil’s Lake

This is one section of Scaups – I’d have to link in Panoramic View to see them all.  My Friend Darrel reported on our Yahoo Bird Network – “Obolites, This afternoon at D Lake in Lincoln City I saw a flock of scaup that must have numbered close to a thousand birds.  While I did not find a Tufted Duck among them, it might be suggested that others in the area be aware of the possibility.”

They usually sit more out in the middle of the lake – a huge black mass – yet on Thursday they wandered closer to us on the southern part of the boat dock, but still not close enough to shore to see anything but black. Smile

You can sort of see the flock over there to the left – This was not my look into the future – I didn’t know the date stamp was on my camera – it’s all fixed now.

Jon took the shot below – he was pretty excited about how the color changed so quickly!

Simply beautiful view. And I can’t say I’ve ever heard of scaups. Learn something new every day!
