Wednesday, May 18, 2011 marked the first spotting of the Goslings of the Canada Goose(Branta canadensis) . Thee first spotting in 2010 was May 5th. Yesterday, one family with 6 goslings, today 2 families with an additional 2 more goslings. It was FASCINATING to watch the families grow last year. I think we had 4-5 families at Spring’s end, with long rows of gosling groups. They eat from the yards and around the edges of the lake. This morning I ran out quickly without shoes, forgetting it was 43 degrees outside and we haven’t mowed yet. . . Hypothermia on the toesies was worth it for these great shots!
Mr. Mallard says he’ll bring his lil ones out later, Mama likes to sleep in til the sun hits our side of the lake a bit warmer. ![]()
