This month I was able to take a look at a downloadable software product called Wordy Qwerty – Foundations for Reading and Writing Fluency for 7 – 9 year olds. If you are familiar with Read, Write & Type Learning System for 6 and 7 year olds – this is the next level of sofware.
Even though Jon is beyond needing this software to learn these types of words, he enjoyed the software. The music is fun, and the way the software registers the “win factor” is pulling the the user. You’ve gotta click on the YouTube video above made by the Wordy Qwerty company. Watching the kids interact is really entertaining!
For us – we did not use software to learn phonograms. When the boys were younger – they didn’t have a product like this. I’m not sure – for us – that this would have been our first choice. I am more of a hands on, crafts, lapbooking type learner. However, you can see from the video above, that in a situation with more than one child – or if you are looking for a way to help the youngers while you help the olders – that this would certainly capture their attention and give them a nice building platform!

You can read how many of the families from The Old Schoolhouse Magazine’s Review Crew used this product. http://homeschoolblogger.com/homeschoolcrew/783983/ Many of them used the Write & Type Learning System last year, and then were invited to review the Wordy Qwerty this year. We received the Wordy Qwerty for free for our use and opinion of the product. I think it is worth checking into if you have young children.
