Tonight is Crock Pot Beef Stroganoff – Found here: http://www.5dollardinners.com/2011/04/slow-cooker-beef-stroganoff-recipe.html
Onward we go finding inexpensive ways to feed these growing teen boys on a budget. I’ve shared how we cut our meat prices in an earlier post here. I took out a thick London Broil size roast and cut it into strips, then cut those strips into 3 parts. We were out of the home this morning, so this afternoon I prepared the recipe above in our Dutch Oven and put it in the oven at 300 while we did our afternoon errands. When we came home 2 1/2 hours later, the meat was sooooo tender and the sauce so rich and yummy! I added some Worchester (War-sta-chester-shire as we say here) that gives the sauce a darker color and richer flavor as well.
1 Family Cream of Campbells Soup 1.89
1 cup sour cream (part of a 1.98 container, so say .75?)
1 lb of beef for $2.66
Egg Noodles .86
Dry Onion Soup Mix – in pantry – I’ve no idea on cost. . . But I’d put in a Beef Bullion cube and some dried onions next time, or fresh.
So – Without a veggie – it comes to $6.16, adding another dollar for the Dry Onion Soup Mix and a quarter for our War-st-chester-shire sauce.
Still a really great meal – I got a lot of approval from the men in the house – and it was super easy.
Yum! Easy and approval of men are always a plus! Plus anything with sour cream…(I have a chicken version you are reminding me of! Sorry…love to talk food 🙂
