We set out for our Winter Weather Walk – our observational direction?
- Look for things man made.
- Look for things natural.
- Spend part of the walk in silence: Hear, Feel, See
- Pick an object to draw from the nature walk.
We had a very short time frame – but enough time to stroll through the forest. The picture above is of Regatta Park in Lincoln City, to the left is a wonderful old growth forest with circular trails. It is a favorite of my youngest – Jon.
Here is the view when we pop out of the trail in front and beside us.
Now they enjoy the pavement, more than the playground – took a moment to whip out the long boards. Makes mom a little nervous as they careen down the hill . . . .
The next day – this morning – we worked on the notebooking pages. I am continuing my experiment that they may use any paper/medium for their notebooking, as long as they spend time either answering my direct questions or finding areas of interest to write about. So far – I am still REALLY enjoying what they come up with!

Angie, I do geocaching, and I so totally have never seen a geocache tag like that…
But now my juices are flowing… I think my son would enjoy it if I could find a way to combine a geocache hike with one of our nature study hikes…

I think the custom nature journal pages are the best anyway…good job on yours too, really nicely done and so personalized. I love the details your boys are showing and they look like they are recording their experiences which is the main objective anyway.
