The Woodcarver, Movie Review and Giveaway

Matthew Stevenson is a troubled kid from a broken home. When he vandalizes the local church to get back at his parents, Matthew has to repair the damage to the church to avoid criminal charges. While working at the church, he meets Ernest (John Ratzenberger), an accomplished wood carver who created the intricate woodwork decoration that Matthew destroyed. Ernest has become something of a hermit, but reluctantly comes out of reclusion to help repair the church. Now Ernest and Matthew must work together to preserve the church’s beautiful antiquity, and along the way, they also manage to restore their faith in God and in life.

The boys and I sat down to watch The Woodcarver this week – and we really enjoyed it.  There is a huge theme of Divorce, Anger, Vandalism and Violence for the first half of the film. I’m not thinking it would be good for younger kids to hear a dad and mom yell and argue so much, especially the very angry father. However, it did bring the point across, and worked into the core of the film of finding the right perspective, forgiveness, a focus on Christ, and doing what is right.

One thing that is new to me – is Christian Cinema . Com – You may head over there to preview a trailer, purchase the movie – or sign up for their rental program.  Here is a link to the rentals – . I have nothing to do with Christian Cinema, I just found them today while looking at the trailer. Smile The link to the trailer is HERE .

Thanks for the contest! I think I’m going to poke around over at Christian Cinema this afternoon. We do Netflix…and I would never give them up since we use it so much for homeschool, BUT this might be a nice addition (and lose some of the extra cable channels we DON’T use! 🙂 )

  7. This sounds so interesting to me. I always wonder about these kinds of movies and don’t have a chance to watch very many of them. I appreciate your review and the contest!
