Heirloom Audio Productions has done it again
with another audio theater production,
this time set in ancient Egypt, from G.A. Henty  –  The Cat of Bubastes

We have enjoyed several of their adventures – I am always thrilled to review for Heirloom Audio Productions! This time I received a 2 CD set that gave us two intense hours of radio drama during our car travels listening to the voices of Brian Blessed, Anthony Daniels, Sylvester McCoy, and John Rhys-Davies.

As we drove along 101 we were transported to Egypt to listen to the story of Amuba, a young man who grew up as a prince but is taken to Egypt as a slave after his people are conquered in battle.  He becomes the servant to the Egyptian high priest Ameres along with his father’s friend Jethro.  Jethro was sent to protect Amuba.  He becomes friends with Amere’s son, Chebron, and becomes familiar with the Egyptian spiritual beliefs – Including the sacredness of cats.  They also befriend some Israelites and learn about the one true God.  (We get to hear about Moses!) When Chebron accidentally kills the family’s honored cat, the boys must flee Egypt and head to Amuba’s homeland, where he fights to reclaim his throne.

IHeirloom Audio Productions ~Cat of Bubastesf you are in a study of the Ancients this year – this is a perfect addition to your homeschooling curriculum for Moses & the Egyptians in  Ancient Egypt. What we find, is that the story often uses vocabulary or situations that spark conversations. I am thankful that they include a downloadable 47 page Study Guide with discussion points and historical and biblical background information.  The guide will help with additional reading, small projects, vocabulary, and reasoning questions to help open up thought and discussion. For the younger listeners, you could listen each day or week, and spend time in the study guide. We’ve used the guide as a reference to answer questions with the older kids.  Heirloom Audio Productions brings history to life as you live the adventure through the story – and then dig deeper into their study guide.

Heirloom Audio Productions ~Cat of BubastesA favorite of the bonus package is the MP3 version of the soundtrack! The musical score is what draws us into the story! I remember my days in high school on our High School Radio team for our private Christian School. It still makes me giggle as I remember our simple productions.

Our complete package contained:

  • The Cat of Bustastes on MP3
  • eStudy Guide and Discussion Starter (pdf)
  • full color ebook of G.A. Henty’s original story  (pdf)
  • A beautiful printable pdf poster with inspirational quote
  • cast poster (pdf)
  • soundtrack (mp3)
