Trim Healthy Mama–I’m all in

Along with anyone who reads blogs or the newsfeed of Facebook – I’ve been watching as my friends have read and then jumped aboard the train that is Trim Healthy Mama. I’ve also followed the bi-polar newsfeed of Pinterest as folks pin their Paleo photos mixed up with the Baker’s photos along with every Picnic food imaginable.

I’ve watched with envy as 2-3 friends have lost massive weight, including my cousin who has lost over 100 pounds and a good friend in town that has passed the 100 pound mark that used tools such as shakes, drops, and surgeries.

I’ve had my own experience dropping 40 pounds on Adkins just before the boys were born, but one day off the wagon and over 10 pounds gained, while having issues with the kidneys with my husband told me that this couldn’t be a life long style of eating.

So I followed along with my friends who are whole foods advocates. Weight Watchers helped me with their whole foods plan to see what good foods are and how to balance healthy meals with exercise. Calories in Calories out – Right?

Well. Not really. Two years ago I wanted to really get healthy – and I thought that would mean that I’d get trim.  All summer, exercising an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening while eating great veggies and whole foods, no drive throughs and very few sugars – and my weight  – stayed exactly the same number.  It was so discouraging.

Enough so – that I sort of fell to the bad side. I ate more bread and more sugar and more fruit.  Still – didn’t gain weight, managed to do the low calories in, massive calories out, but no change.

Thyroid – I finally got my thyroid level in a decent range and found that if I replaced one meal a day with a healthy smoothie, the scale would jiggle just a bit. So I bumped up the exercise and lowered the calories – and ta-dah – the scale moved!

This is the lowest weight I’ve been in the last 5-7 years.

However – as I look at photos that other people post, I see two things – a huge roll around my middle and a huge neck and chin.  I know – that I know that I know – that these are being fed by the bread that I’m eating.  I’ll talk to skinny friends and fellow work out buddies and gain a few recipes here and there, but not a great plan to have the whole family on.

Until this weekend. When I started reading Trim Healthy Mama. I ordered the book in town using some gift certificates I won. Their plan makes sense to me. Makes sense for the whole family. It wouldn’t just be ‘my food’ and then making the boys a different meal. We all need to loose the bread and sugar addiction and this will help.

My scale is at a new to me low number today – and it has not climbed in the week of eating this rich wonderful food. I do not feel deprived at all, I’m not eating chemicals, or shakes or paying for food that only I can consume.

After 4 days – my tastebuds have shown signs of healing. My coffee without sugar tasted rich an creamy and full of flavor. The Blueberries and Strawberries for snack bursted with sweet juicy goodness.  I’m no longer trying to figure out what I’ll have ‘instead of bread’ but have so many other veggie choices that I don’t have room for bread.

They do have a few recepies ‘in a mug’ style for the microwave to make cakes, brownies and breads for sandwiches and pizza.  We’ve enjoyed those as well. And the scale still moves down.

I’ve wondered if I should start a blog for my THM moments, but I think I’ll just share the journey here.  I hope to encourage you – especially if your weight is stagnant, high, or crazed by hormones, if you are over 40 or have thyroid issues.

This is in no way a review or an endorsement or an affiliate post – I purchased my own book and read it on my own.
