I have had two sad and lonely tomatoes on my shelf for far too long.
Yesterday, while making Enchiladas, I thought to throw them into the sauce.
When I sliced them open – I saw that they must have heard us talking about Spring!
The boys delighted in the little sprouts, and sprung into action themselves.
Out came the sand shovels – in went the tomato sprouts. We have experience with tomato sprouts, one year in Central Oregon, even with the tiny little growing season of three and a half weeks between late July and mid August when it doesn’t frost, we grew tomato plants by the dozens – starts from leftover tomatoes. We never got a bloom or a fruit, but we sure did grow a lot of plants that year!
This container is in full sun most of the day on the dock, but we may bring it inside if we know a cold snap is coming in April.
And so the garden officially begins. ![]()
