The boys have been challenged to learn two things – Drawing on the computer using AutoDesk SketchBook Pro – draw or write with the Bamboo Pen from Wacom. So far – little urges to “Just Do It” have worked better as a slogan for NIKE than as a motivator for using something unfamiliar and hard for them them.
So – For January – We are all three going to work through the Drawing Textbook Lessons using the Bamboo Pen. Nathan and I have gone through the book using our sketch pads and pencil – so the lessons are familiar to us. The results have been great! Jon is really enjoying drawing on the computer and he is really good at it! He’s been making us some great screensavers. They are on his user account, so I could post them easily . . . He still prefers the mouse over the pen, Nate and I prefer the Pen. As long as he can coordinate his eye to the screen, I think, when needed, he will prefer the pen later.
Nate is using Paint.NET on his little netbook. He drew the elements in, then it looks like he used the tools to embellish a bit.
If you see the drawing textbook anywhere – it is worth the less than 10 dollar price tag. Right now it is out of stock at Timerdoodle.com – Bummer!
What did your kids use to learn how to draw on the computer?

Gavin asked for a Bamboo for Christmas- which we got him. He loves it. I’ll have to post some of his pictures.
My kids first learned on Paint…simply with a mouse. My dd was always really good at using it. Recently she bought herself a (hope that came out right…) and also bought herself two computer drawing programs. One is ArtRage 2.5, the other is Anime Studio 7. I tried to use her ArtRage program and well, I’m thinking I’m just too old to learn new tricks! 😉
oops, so my hyperlink didn’t work… oh well! If you look for the art programs on Amazon, you can at least get there from the link 🙂
omg! So sorry!! The link goes to the Genius MousePen tablet… okay, no more posting… I promise… 😉
