We had a great time on the beach in Taft today – as the DJ loves to say – It’s better at the beach! For a donation to the local food bank, we get to stake out a space of ground, hunker down for the day, and be participants instead of just spectators. we wanted to build up this year, so we dug. And Dug. And dug. And then. We dug some more. We dug from 10:30ish until 2ish. It doesn’t look like it, you’d think we’d have built a 3 story building! Our entry was in the Dog category. We wanted a dog on a surf board, but ended up with a dog near a surf board. This category was sponsored by our friends at the Looking Glass Inn. We LOVE their prices, rooms, location, and love for dogs! Thanks Looking Glass Inn!
Elenor – the best mermaid on the beach – throws saltwater taffy to the crowd. My friend Leanne is helping. It’s a Sandcastle Contest tradition! After we were judged after 3, I headed over to Elenors for just about the best burger every. Man. It was tasty. Cold fountain drink and a bag of chips – cookies and popcorn brought back to the beach. Yum. Have I mentioned lately that they make the Worlds Greatest Root Beer Float? It’s worth the drive just to try it. It’s not really a root beer float. It’s in a category all to it’s own. Man. Now I want to drive back down to Taft and get one. Wonder if they are still open . . . .
People had fun playing the “What is it” game. It’s Max. On the Beach by his Board!
Talking to the judge.
Guy from Master Sand Builders or some such show ? Not as cool as we thought it would be. Sorry.
(I’ve been seeing this a lot lately.)
Winner of the Dog category
What’s the best part of building a sand castle?
Fun day at the beach! Thank you Lincoln City – Great Time!
Very cool! I love the picture of Nate….Ben would kill me if I took a picture like that and commented on the blog. I’m already pretty much banned from putting his picture online.
Nate doesn’t read my blog. Ha!

We have a similar event down here at Virginia Beach, but there are fees and lots of “professionals” that enter. Yours looks a LOT more fun!
We had maybe 2-3 “professional” families. Many from out of town. Barely any from our own town. No additional substance may be added to the sand, no supports in the structures, forms are permitted to set the sand. This sand is on a river and it is Really grainy. Really hard to form. It is a party on the beach- the funnest party all summer!
Very neat!
