Lake Foam

The lake foam is pretty thick tonight.  All day the wind has blown from west to east – right into our beach area.

The wind blows on the surface area of the water, currents mix with the air and agitate the dying algae and plants in the lake, creating this foam. We see it at the beach as well. The good news – the algae is dying. The bad news? This stuff dries up and is Really Stinky. Like dead fish. Yuck.

You can see that it gets dried out from the winds – it looks crispy but is still bath water bubble type consistency.

So along with the good news that algae dies – is the bad news. #1 – it’s getting darker WAY too early.  #2 – I have to wade through this stuff with my feet to get the canoe in the water in the morning. It is sort of pretty, and always fun to have a new element of the lake to learn about. Want to read more?  http://des.nh.gov/organization/commissioner/pip/factsheets/bb/documents/bb-5.pdf
