Well, we don’t really know. We do know that there is a very strange layer to the top of the skunk cabbage leaf. A friend came over and wanted to use our microscope to check it out. We’ve handled quite a bit of skunk cabbage and have not gotten sick. We ended up going through the forest and collecting quite a few specimens. We taught him how to filet the plant to be able to see plant cells. We spent hours looking at all of the different spores and hoping to find a bug.
This was our biggest moment of the day – Nettle. Everyone ooooed and ahhhed.
I love it! Being that this is one of the best plants on the planet, also one of the most nutritious, we obviously cannot get enough of it here. It deserves to be broken down and studied by awesome homeschool kids! Great job, guys!
