Red-necked Phalarope – Link to What Bird
Paddling on the lake today, there were several small black shorebirds swimming around us. They would come super close, probably cause they knew I didn’t have my camera. Rich dark black contrasted with brilliant white, a straight bill, not short, not long, and a neck of brilliant red, some almost orange, with orange/red/peach stripes on the back.
I came home and found it in my Shorebirds Book. Beginners Guide to Shorebirds, Page 91. Then I went to The Sibley Guide to Birds to mark it in my Life List and Oh NO!!! I’d already found it in August of 2011. Sigh. In Newport, Oregon.
Well, it is the first time I’ve seen them on the lake. This page did not have a post-it flag on it, so I bet it is not entered into the Life List app on the iPod yet.
I really like the notes directly in the bird guide idea!
