We were on our way to Newport, passing through Depoe Bay when I heard a conversation in the back seat. One boy was talking about the tubes and the spouts and getting soaked. One boy was saying it wasn’t true, there were no tubes, and that he had never seen the ocean spout water. We saw that the high tide big swell conditions were just right, so I had to pull over to show them.
There are a few spouts. This is right along Hwy 101. Our favorite is a bit to the south where there is a long natural tube of rock. The swell will travel up through this tube then shoot like an arc over the street and send spray for several yards.
The rainbows are my favorite on sunny days. Max, the wonder dog loves it too.
The lil green subaru was so full of ocean spray, that as it dried it was entirely crusted over with dried salt. We had to pull over in Newport to a car wash as I couldn’t see out of any window.
Have I mentioned how much I love living on the Central Oregon Coast?
