Another beautiful day in Oregon, bright and early, to line up for Free Fishing Day put on by the Oregon Department Fish and Wildlife, ODFW and our own local Lincoln City Community Center. We left with our coffee, gear and a lunch box at 7:30 in the morning,
It was a bit of a sad morning just watching Jon, alone, in the line up Strange to see him in his Middle School Track jacket, fishing for what may be his last year at free fishing day. Absent, is his 16 year old brother who was working at the camp in town as a lifeguard for the canoes and swimming pool campers.
He may be 13, but he still gets into it.
Local vendors gave product and money for the event. The Chinook Winds Casino gave 1,000 dollars for prizes, vendors for foods, and Fred Meyers in Newport gave the amazing bikes for first prize.
The line up at around 8:30 a.m.
Jon won a basketball hoop when his ticket was won. I think he will play basketball next year for Taft, he now, almost always, has a ball in his hand. Super Annoying,
His current passion? Spinning the ball on all of his fingers and then holding it spinning on his pinky.
So it was a great day, he quickly go this 5 fish limit and we headed to our next activity. He wasn’t interested in putting his name in for the prizes as we’ve won for several years in a row. If you ever want to fish for free for the weekend, keep your eyes open for the Free Fishing weekends and check the ODF&W websites for event locations.
