Hillsong United–Empires–May 26th Review & Giveaway!

One thing I love about being a reviewer for Propeller is their connection to the Music Industry – the opportunity to share new music with you. I was quick to raise my hand to ask for Hillsong United’s Empires. And I get to Give Away one CD to a reader!!

The next day I received an invitation to be on the line with Taya Smith, the singer of Oceans.  It was an hour well spent. I loved hearing her heart towards worshiping through music. Honoring Christ and the Word. One piece of information shared was about their accountability to the Word for the words that they write. They have a team that goes through each phrase and they hold it up in the light of the Word to make sure it does not conflict with His Voice.

There are a lot of song written by individuals, songs true to them, honest words, gut felt emotions. That doesn’t mean we need to lead entire congregations to sing those feelings. And even though they are real to that person – they might not match up to the Living Word. As I stand with my portion of the body of believers – sometimes I am silent in songs. I’m not at a space in my life to be crying out those words to the gain the attention of the King. I don’t need to send the words up for comfort. Sometimes I sing them in the name of another. All that to share – that I’m really glad that Hillsong has a plumb line for the words in their songs.

This CD has 12 songs on it. I started listening to it in the car the day it arrived in the mail. With car conversations, driving, traffic, errands – my first impression was that it was largely instrumental. Orchestra. Long drawn out chords. In a good way – a soothing way. As if you have sung the opening quick, melody and have entered into the deep passage of worship. Ready to stay there, swaying, resting, peaceful. I had a hard time picking up words, and still focus on my environment.

When I got home, I slid out the lil magazine in the cover. I started to read the words – and quickly sent a few phrases to a hurting friend. This group of worship songs has the theme of meeting Jesus Christ right here. I love that the first song is Here Now. I can’t tell you how annoyed I get when a group of Christ Followers, filled with the Spirit, spend two songs begging the Spirit to come. Didn’t he walk in with me? Sorry – I get off track.

Here Now is an honest first song – acknowledging who Jesus Is. That he is Here Now.  Full of Grace. We don’t need to know everything – save for that he is Here Now. (My thoughts, not actual lyrics.)

Say the Word caught my attention while I was driving. The phrase – Written in a billion skies, Speaking to this heart of mine, All that I am with all creation, Hanging on every word that you’ve spoken, And it will not be shaken, Clinging for life to all your promise, Hanging on every word that You say. It will remain and my soul will hang on every word You say. – It is not often that we get to worship the Word – Christ as the Word. Oh how I love my leather bible, my Bible Apps, my studies, my Proverbs, Truth, His Word. I love a song dedicating to worshiping Him as Word.

The songs continue to share the story of Word, Mercy, Truth, Grace, sufficient for me, given freely by Christ.

The next song that caught my attention was Even When it Hurts. – Praising Christ – Singing Loud  – with fainted heart, with tainted hands, when strength is lost, when my song is gone, with the weight of the world, and tears enough to fill the ocean, in the struggle and the fight,  – my heart will burn for Christ, and I will sing – Even when the morning comes, even when the fight is won, even when my life here is done – Then even louder I will sing the praise of Jesus. (words from lyrics, but not the actual song). We don’t need to enter into worship as a pollyanna. I’m singing. So I’m joyful. So I’m OK. Look. I’m smiling. Nope, sometimes I’m just singing praise, cause that’s all I have left right now.

The songs continue to tell the story – Who is this Christ? The Prince of Peace – God – Who are we? Empires – Images of our Maker – He will Rule – He is ruling now – So I will follow my Captain – The truth of Christ is the compass that points me back north – to Jesus, My soul’s trusted Lord – All my allegiance is rightfully yours

It finishes off with Closer Than You Know. A heart felt plea from Christ himself – pouring out His heart, what He has done for us, and where he stands – I think it has the most powerful lyrics on the whole CD.

And on this little pamphlet – an urgent prayer – that was given over me, the listener – that I might discover Christ – relationship restored – that I may have a fresh start in Him, and live my life for Him.

I’ve imported this CD into my AmazonMusic so that I may listen on my andriod phone and kindle and TV apps. Solid words. Biblical Words. And the Word will not return void. My advice – is to download / purchase this CD on May 26th, 2015!  I was going to share my relationship to Hillsong through their song Oceans – and what it means to me as a surfing mom, but the Lord let my fingers in a different direction. It’s not about me. It’s about Him. Peace to you!

I would like to win this. Great review. This sounds like an encouraging CD that I would listen to often. Also, I am curious about Propeller if you could tell me more about it. Hope you are having a good week.

    • Propeller is a blogger network. We share faith and family based products. They have some pretty amazing vendors. I get an email asking if I’d like to participate in a promotion, what I’d get (need to do) , what I can give away, (Propeller ships it), and what the due date is. So far it has been super fun. I love books, music, and movies – so it is a win/win for me. I write – like today – about my experience and share on social media. Simple! http://www.flybypromotions.com/
