The Reef was going off this week! 20-30 foot waves. The Nelscott Reef Unvitational ProAm was called for Thursday, the 7th.
We were able to secure a perch to take photographs and watch the event.
Two of our surf heros – local boys – Jeremy and Tony.
15 competitors in the water – plus a crew pulled out 7 non non competitor pro surfers to add to the mix. Grrrr. I’ve never seen so many people waiting to ride one wave.
You’re out in the ocean, a half mile or more off shore. The only sane way to get out there is by Jet Ski or a boat. Sets of swells come in on powerful storm surges and can create a wave over 60 feet high. This week it has been between 20-30+.
Another good way to spend the day.
