We spent some time outdoors looking at the wild and purposely planted flowers. In particular, we were looking for clear examples of Flower Parts, and the Most Abundant WildFlower in our yard. When we came indoors – we tried to see how many little parts we could find and identify. I did have a slide that had a Buttercup Stem on it, so we looked at that also.
We spent yesterday looking at parts of a flower online. The challenge to the boys is to start using correct names when observing and drawing plants.
The photo in the bottom left nature journal was found on line as showing the parts of the Forget Me Not. Very Cool. I have another whole pondering post on observing in detail, and being able to see the difference between the familiar and the unknown . . . pondering. Each time we spend in direct intentional observation, especially of an object in abundance, we find more of what we don’t know, than what we do . . pondering. So cool! Plant cells, I love them. Guess I am a botanist at heart. This is amazing that you are all exploring plants to this detail at such a young age.
I forgot to mention the Learning Part – We went to our local Mart and looked at the flowers outside. Quite quickly, the boys pointed and named the flower parts. WOOT!

Oh my! This IS an awesome post about all that you observed. Beautiful images and the ones through your microscope are just amazing. This is really interesting to me and has my curiosity perked…will be pulling out our microscope again this week for sure.
