I’d like to introduce you to a 5 girl singing group – 1 Girl Nation. I have sons that love music. We are not blessed to have any Christian Radio in town, so they hear a lot more main stream pop music than I ever had growing up. They like a lively beat, a bit of rap, music to dance to. However, the lyrics get the song in trouble, and it gets banned from our car. I am always on the lookout for music that they will enjoy.

We were at my lady’s bible study and a mom shared her heart felt prayer for her daughter. She is in a dance club and the music that they listen to is also not always encouraging music. She prayed for a new artist that her girls would like that they could listen to and dance with.

That same week, I received 1 Girl Nation (1GN) in the mail.  I had popped it in the CD player in the car then proceeded to our normal activity of running around town picking up the boys’ friends. A couple of them asked if it was a new Taylor Swift song, they thought it was the radio. A couple mentioned that they liked a song here and there when they discovered it was a CD. It was the 3rd song before they really dug into the words and realized it was ‘my’ CD. These are middle and high school boys.

I was happy to listen to the music for a week or two, and then gift the CD to my friend at my prayer group. I shared the YouTube video on Facebook and received quite a bit of postive response. Here’s a sample of one of my favorite songs:

After listening to the music for a couple of weeks, and really digging into the words, I can say that this is going to be the most encouraging to preteen and teen girls. It’s not really a boy directed CD. My boys, after the 3rd time through, finally changed the CD out. They like the general upbeat sound of the songs though. If you have a taxi family car that has a mixture of boys and girls, then this is a great medium road CD that will make both genders happy. I like soft hearted hip hop dance music, and I liked these songs.

As for ministry – it is focused on younger girls. As a mom, it wouldn’t be what I’d use for my exercise playlist to get me pumped up with words, but it would work for the tempo.

This is a great CD that will be perfect for winter birthdays, stocking stuffers and Christmas gifts.
